When the green flag flew for the 2025 Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix, Josef Newgarden was starting on the outside of row 3, in P6.
As the race unfolded, Josef kept moving forward, making progress throughout the race until finally, he was battling up front for the win. As Josef was working on catching Scott Mclaughlin, Scott got into the marbles and sideswiped the fence, leading to a caution. Josef was now leading with 11 laps to go and sped away from Alex Palou in second.
Josef was able to taste the champagne and win in the Music City, his hometown. Josef had this to say regarding the win at Nashville, “Very special. Never a bad time to show up and have a good day. I think the team really performed like you expect from Team Penske.”
Regarding his bad luck this year, Josef had this to say, “It is grueling to get to these races and to get through the weekend, put a car on the track that’s capable of winning, hitting all your marks every second of the race. It’s just so difficult to do.”
And finally, regarding his plans for recharging this offseason with a new baby on the way, “Yeah, I mean, candidly I’m looking forward to it. I’d like to go away and start to miss it {racing} again. Sometimes that’s what you want, is to miss something. That’s my plan.”
